Gord joined Vancouver Fire Rescue Services in 1997 and today holds the rank Captain. During his time on the floor Gord has served on the Hazardous Materials Team including as an instructor, and places a high value in working shifts to remain connected with the issues of the profession he proudly represents. Gord began his Union career by serving on various committees prior to serving on the Executive Board of Local 18, rising to the position of President where he was acclaimed in 2009, 2011, and 2013. Joining the BCPFFA Executive Board in 2009 as Vice President representing Vancouver Local 18, he soon rose to Executive Vice President, and Secretary Treasurer. Gord was acclaimed as the new President of the BCPFFA at the historic 2016 BCPFFA Convention in Las Vegas, and has since been re-acclaimed in 2018 and 2021. A recipient of the IAFF’s Harvard Law School/University of Ottawa Executive Leadership Scholarship Program, he has also attended the IAFF’s Communication Training Academy and Political Action Training Academy in Baltimore, and serves as an IAFF Field Service Rep. In late 2022 Gord was appointed as the IAFF Senior Executive for Western Canada.
Additionally, Gord maintains membership with the BC Institute of Technology.
