David received a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Syracuse University in 1968. David joined the Department of Psychiatry at McMaster University after graduating, and then also became a member of the Department of Clinical Epidemiology & Biostatistics at McMaster. founding Director of the Applied Research Unit and the Assistant V.P. of Research at the Baycrest Centre, and a Professor in the Psychiatry Department at the University of Toronto, with cross-appointments in the faculties of Nursing, Social Work, and Rehabilitation.
