Post Symposium Report 2024

Symposium Summary:

In late 2023, the concept for the Together We Are Stronger symposium emerged as a joint endeavor among CIPSRT and the Public Safety Steering Committee (PSSC).

The primary objective of the symposium was to empower Public Safety Personnel (PSP) and their leaders to understand more about and act on mental health and wellbeing for PSP, their leaders, and their families. The symposium highlighted key research findings and provided information on the resources available such as the CIPSRT HUB and PSPNET. Additionally, the event aimed to foster networking opportunities among a diverse spectrum of public safety employees, facilitating both formal and informal connections.

By bringing together stakeholders from various sectors of public safety, the symposium sought to catalyze meaningful dialogue and collaboration towards enhancing the mental health support systems within the public safety community.

Feedback:

Feedback from the Together We Are Stronger symposium attendees has been overwhelmingly positive. The organization of the event, comprehensively, was highly commended.

Participants found that communication prior to and during the event was clear and effective, and presentation content was relevant, containing plenty of new and valuable information.

The impact of the symposium also appears to have been significant, with many attendees expressing their desire and intent to take newly learned information back to their public safety organizations, and action it accordingly. Learning opportunities were valued, as were networking opportunities.

The venue and hospitality were praised; of note was the food, which received positive feedback and overall high satisfaction ratings from attendees and staff.

Overall, the symposium left attendees satisfied and fulfilled, with many expressing gratitude for the enriching experience.

Quotes from the Post Symposium Evaluation

We received helpful feedback from attendees through the post-symposium evaluation, and we are happy to share some of the highlights of what we heard:

Quote number 1: It was such an informative event. It was incredible being able to participate in, and witness at the national level what hundreds of individuals, researchers and doctors are doing to understand the challenges PSP are facing regarding our own mental well0being.     Quote number 2: The current issues that I was perceiving were covered by the presenters and made me feel less alone in that all PSP were experiencing what I was.

Quote number 3: I was completely blown away with the shared knowledge and the take aways were incredible. I have a completely new vision of both CIPSRT and PSP, and the resources available for my peers will be put to use immediately.     Quote number 4: I will be encouraging the leaders of my organization to attend next year.

Quote number 5: I felt honoured to sit among such a large group of people that are all working and dedicating their careers to improve the lives and health of myself, my peers and fellow first responders.
